    • As my next leg home would have me flying across most of Minnesota I looked for  some scenery on here of the area I knew quite well, with no success.   So I looked at getting some payware stuff and came up with MEGAscenery for the whole state. It's a MONSTER download in about 25 parts, but it wasn't badly priced so I bought it.   The download instructions run to PAGES of text and require two more utilities to be downloaded first, so I did all that and installes the utils, and started of downloading it all.   Did it work?   NO! 😬   I could download the manual and all the charts for the entire state but NONE of the scenery files would download, every one saying 'Internal Server Error'.   I've emailed a VERY rude note back to the suppliers!
    • Small World time again, the Bay of Fundy is the only place in the whole WORLD with a higher tide rise and fall than EGDF.   For real, I'm not joking. Love that pic BTW.
    • ok thanks so much perhaps i was mistaken with the releasee number!   your reply is most appreciated. i will abide your advice with gratitude.
    • The announcement says March 26 was a "target release date".   https://www.flightsimulator.com/   I don't see any announcement there that SU15 has actually been released.   They usually have a news update each Thursday late in the day, so check the official web site later today for news...
    • Apparently the windowed mode issue is a known problem. This was part of the most recent update announcement:   Over the last several days, we’ve noticed many reports about an issue affecting PC players where the sim will always open in windowed mode even if full screen mode was set. Players using both the regular release build and the SU_15 beta build are affected by this issue. The team has identified the source of this bug, and a fix will be coming with SU_15. In the meantime, the workaround to restore full screen mode is to set this option in your General Settings each time you launch the sim or simply press Alt+Enter on your keyboard.   https://www.flightsimulator.com/march-21st-2024-development-update/

    • Thank you Jorgen. Revised complete version below. Advise if any further clarifications or changes needed, When final anyone can use as guide to first (or re)install. Could also then post final version as new post if easier for people like me to find and use? ie "How to install FSX Gold on Win 10".  David "'1. Use Windows File Explorer to scan your C drive for the string "FSX", there may be folders there left over. If FSX was installed on a different drive, scan that one also. Uninstall both FSX and Acceleration, through uninstall in Control Panel. Reboot. Check everything is gone. (N/A if new install.)  2. Install the DirectX Redistributables - a free download from Microsoft. Reboot. “There are also some other essential libraries that you may be missing that have not been mentioned by others...  You can use Programs and Features to check if you have any of the following 'libraries' installed or, if you wish, simply download and install them - the installers will check for any previous install and will replace any missing/invalid/corrupt files or install the complete package as appropriate.  Visual C++ Runtime Redistributable packs - specifically version 2005 and 2008 but I also recommend installing 2010 as well. You can find download links for earlier version HERE You will need to download the both the x86 and x64 versions. Click on the required link and a standard download option box will appear - DO NOT run the installer from this but select the Save As option and save the file to temp location. To install, right click on the file and select the Run as Administrator option. Install each package separately, starting with the oldest version, and reboot using the RESTART option between each install. The reboot is essential to allow the windows registry and important system files to be updated.  .NET Framework - specifically versions 3.5 and 4 - download from HERE - download and install using the same procedure for the C++ files.”  3. Run Windows Update, make sure the switch under "Advanced Options" called "Receive updates for other Microsoft products" is turned on. Run the update until there are no more updates to get.  4. Install FSX Deluxe (2 disks)  remember to change the path it installs to. What you need to do is to install it OUTSIDE the reach of UAC, that means in C:\FSX or something like that, but absolutely not under C:\Program Files (x86) where it wants to install. Then you need to set it to run as Administrator. Turn UAC off also, if you are OK with that.   At the end of the installation, fly around a minute or so in the ultralight, then end the flight. Now reboot. After installing FSX DeLuxe (the 2 disks), flying around, shutting down and rebooting you need to activate FSX DeLuxe! Then reboot again.  5: After the last reboot in bullet point 4, install the third DVD from the FSX Gold set, the Acceleration DVD. Again, at the end of the installation of that, fly around a bit, shut FSX down, reboot, register/activate with the code from the Acceleration DVD and reboot again."''
    • Halifax International (CYHZ) Canada to John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK) USA   Pre-flight done, ready to start the engine. The aircraft marshallers helped me turn my Spitfire around before getting started so I would have an easier time taxiing out.  In a cold mist and fog!  Will wait a bit to open the canopy.   Taxi hold to wait for the Cherokee 180 to pass by.  The tower tells me that I am the only aircraft taking off after the Cherokee landed, so I may proceed at pilot's discretion.   Lined up on runway 15.  View is looking back toward the terminal but everything is shrouded in fog.   Advancing throttle for take off on runway 15.   Using pilot's discretion to get on course as quickly as possible.   Saw some lights ahead in the fog and decided to investigate.  "Tower, this is Ghostrider requesting a Flyby!" 🙂   Tower view of my Spitfire.  Luckily they can't read my tail number in this pea soup.  Full throttle, getting out of Canada as quick as I can.   Climbing through 9,300 ft and on course.  Grateful to be clear of that fog and mist below.   30 minutes elapsed.  Leaving Halifax, although you can't see it below.   1 hour of flight.  Flying over the Bay of Fundy with solid overcast below.   1 hour and 20 minutes.  Almost feet dry over the USA.   90 minutes of flight.   1 hour and 38 minutes elapsed.  Finally able to clearly see some countryside below.   11 minutes shy of 2 hours flying time.   2 hours and 1 minute.  Almost directly overhead LaGuardia Airport (KLGA).  Staying above 10,000 ft to clear their class B airspace before descent.   Down to 1,600 feet near New York City.   Couldn't resist a 200 kt 100 foot flyby.  🙂   Gear and flaps down and approaching John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK). My plan was to swing around and land on the longest runway 31L.   At 2,200 feet.  Tower just informed me that my downwind leg for 31L was just changed to a base leg for 22R due to a large jet that needs 31L.  At this point I am way too high for a smooth approach to the new runway.  Note to self, pick a smaller airport for the next leg.   Curved approach, on short Final for 22R.   Over the numbers.   Full stop landing.  Not my best landing, but down safe.   Parked at John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK).  All those big jets must be parked on the other side of the airport.   Next stop is Allegheny County Airport (KAGC) near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.  My old stomping grounds.  Here is where I did my first real world landing (with an Instructor) in a Beechcraft Model 19 Musketeer Sport after 2.5 hours of flight instruction.
    • Please, do not shout at me. It is very rude and shows ignorance on the part of the shouter.  Thank you
